These Stabilo pencils are the best.  They write on wet wood and pretty much anything else without bleeding or smearing, and they look just like regular pencil lead.  We love using them while carving, so we decided to provide them for folks who may not live near an art supply store.  They're a little pricey, but they are worth it when you've got a piece of fresh alder in your hands.
